The villages Sanyar and Bassee are economically dependent on the cultivation of coffee. Clean water is essential for processing and washing the coffee berries. An average coffee farmer quickly uses 5 to 15 liters of water for processing 1 kilo of unroasted coffee beans. Access to water helps farmers to better process their harvest and generate more income. In this way, this project contributes directly to the economic conditions in Sanyar and Bassee.

In addition to improving access to water for ordinary households and coffee farmers, this project also makes an important contribution to health in Sanyar-Bassee. Safe water-sources reduce the risk of water-related diseases such as cholera. It also contributes to the improvement of hygiene. Together with the villagers our local expert PartnerVision will investigate the hygiene and sanitation in their village.

The project team in Cameroon consists of James from Sucoda, Jaba from FAHP, Valentine from PaVis and Eyole from CED. Together with our coordinator Emilia they are already working with the villagers in Sanyar-Bassee to lay the foundation for a sustainable solution to their water problem. Eventually, a strong local committee armed with the expertise and knowledge needed to maintain a water system, will run the water company on its own.
